Condition grades
What our grades actually mean
Every phone is tested and graded before it is listed. The grade describes cosmetic appearance only — every device, whatever its grade, is fully functional and comes with a minimum of 85% battery health.
Every phone arrives boxed with a charger and SIM tool, and unlocked to every network for a hassle-free setup. See how we test and grade devices.
SIM & networks
SIM cards, unlocking and networks
What does SIM free mean?
A SIM free device works with any UK SIM card, on any network. Every unlocked, SIM free device is checked before it is sent out.
Will my refurbished phone work with my current SIM?
If you have selected a SIM free device, any SIM from any provider will work. If you are locked into a contract with a UK provider, it is worth checking the device is compatible with that network before ordering. The SIM type is listed under the technical specifications on every product page.
Can I use a Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, Asda Mobile or Virgin SIM?
Yes, provided you bought an unlocked device from us — any SIM from any network provider will work.
Do T-Mobile and Orange SIM cards work in an EE-locked phone?
Yes. T-Mobile and Orange SIMs work with EE-locked devices.
My SIM is the wrong size for the device I bought
Contact your current provider and ask them to send a replacement SIM in the size you need. Most will do this free of charge.
Can I unlock a device that is locked to a network?
If you bought a network-locked device from us, you may be able to have it unlocked through your current provider — contact them for details. We cannot guarantee this is possible in every case and accept no responsibility where a provider declines.
Do your handsets come with contracts?
No. Everything we sell is SIM free, so your existing SIM contract applies to your new handset. No new contracts, no tie-ins.

General questions
Is Used Phones 4 U the same as Used Mobiles 4 U?
Yes. Used Phones 4 U is the new name for Used Mobiles 4 U. Existing customer orders, warranties and support continue as normal. You may still see the Used Mobiles 4 U name in older emails, documents or references while the rebrand is completed.
Do you have a shop where I can see phones in person?
No, we are an online shop only. All stock is held securely for safety reasons and is not available to view before purchase — which is why we grade honestly, publish what each grade means, and back every order with 30-day returns.
What comes in the box?
Every phone arrives boxed with a charging cable and a SIM tool, and unlocked to every network so setup is straightforward.
Are your phones checked for being lost or stolen?
Yes. Every handset is checked against the CheckMend register through our MobiCode diagnostics before it is listed for sale. See the full ten-stage check.
What battery health do your phones come with?
A minimum of 85% at the point of sale, on every phone we sell, regardless of condition grade. Eligible devices also carry 12-month battery cover alongside the 18-month device warranty.
