Trade in & recycle

There are more phones in UK drawers than there are people in London.

Yours is probably one of them. Tell us what it is, post it to us free of charge, and we will either pay you for it or recycle it responsibly. Either way it stops being landfill.

Used smartphones ready to be traded in and refurbished

What is your device worth?

Pick your model, tell us its condition, and get a figure. Nothing to commit to.

Why it matters

A drawer is just a slower landfill

An unused handset does not hold its value while it waits. It loses worth every month, and eventually stops being resaleable at all — at which point the gold, copper and cobalt inside it are simply gone.

We would rather refurbish it and sell it on to someone who wants it. Where a device is genuinely beyond that, it goes to certified recycling instead of being written off.

How it works

Four steps, and three of them are ours

Selling privately means photographing the thing, writing a listing, fielding lowball offers and hoping the buyer actually pays. This is the version where you fill in a form and wait.

Start with a valuation

01

Tell us what you have

Model, storage, network and honest condition. About a minute, and you get a figure straight away.

02

We send the packaging

Tracked and paid for. You are not out of pocket at any point in the process.

03

We inspect it

The same technicians who refurbish our stock check what arrived against what you described.

04

You get paid

Within 24 hours of your device passing inspection. If the figure changes we tell you why, and you can have the device back.

What we buy

Phones mostly. But not only phones.

We buy the devices we know how to refurbish and resell, which means we can be specific about what they are worth rather than guessing.

Getting the best price

Four things move the number

01Screen condition. The single biggest deduction, because it is the most expensive part to replace. Frame scuffs barely register by comparison.
02Battery health. Check yours before you quote — on iPhone it is Settings, Battery, Battery Health. A tired battery lowers an offer, it does not end it.
03Network lock. Unlocked is worth more. Most UK networks unlock free once your contract ends, and it is usually worth waiting for.
04Timing. Handsets drop fastest around a new model launch. Selling before the announcement rather than after it is worth real money.

Before you post it

Five minutes now saves a week later

The commonest hold-up is not damage. It is a device that arrives still signed in to an Apple or Google account, which locks it and means we cannot process it until you release it remotely.

01

Back up anything you want to keep

iCloud or Google One will do it overnight on Wi-Fi. Photos are what people forget.

02

Turn off Find My

This is the step that causes the delays. Sign out of iCloud, or remove your Google account, before you reset.

03

Factory reset

iPhone: Settings, General, Transfer or Reset. Android: Settings, System, Reset options.

04

Take out the SIM and memory card

We cannot return them once a device is processed, and your number goes with the SIM.

05

Use the packaging we send

It is designed for the job. A padded envelope and hope is how screens crack in transit.

Questions

What people ask before they post

How long until I am paid?

Within 24 hours of your device passing inspection. Inspection happens once your parcel arrives, so the total time depends mostly on Royal Mail.

What if the offer changes?

We tell you what we found and what the revised figure is. If you would rather not accept it, we post the device back. You are never obliged to take less.

Is a broken phone worth sending?

Usually. A cracked screen or a dead battery is a repair, not a write-off, and a working logic board carries most of the value. Describe the fault honestly and quote for it.

What happens to my data?

Every device we take in is wiped as part of our refurbishment process, whether or not you reset it first. We would still rather you reset it yourself — it is your data, and you should control when it goes.

What if it has no resale value?

We recycle it properly rather than posting it back to you. Nothing we take in is sent to landfill.

Can I send several at once?

Yes, and it is worth doing in one go. For businesses retiring a fleet, our corporate page covers the bulk process.
